Parks and Recreation Department

The Parks and Recreation Department provides a variety of programming for Sherwood residents of all ages that include sports leagues, physical fitness, aquatics classes, an after-school care, and summer day camp. In addition to the active year-round schedule of programs offered by the department, The Parks Department maintains all of the City of Sherwoods parks and pools; and staff a Youth Center, Tennis Center, Library, public Golf Course, and Recreation Center for use by the public. With ten city parks, residents of Sherwood have a range of facilities for outdoor fun. Each of these facilities is maintained by the staff to ensure that they are attractive and safe for your family to use.

Austin Lake Park
Located on Austin Lake Circle, it includes a 1,600 foot asphalt paved walking trail, two pavilions, a playground structure, swing set, and a picnic area.

Beverly Park
Located on North Beverly Avenue across from the Henson Tennis Center, it includes a pavilion, a playground structure, and asphalt paved walking trail.

Delmont Park
Located on the corner of Delmont and Sherwood Avenue, it includes a gazebo, a playground structure, a swing set, and picnic area with a grill.

Fairway Park - 800 Fairway Ave
Located on Fairway Avenue off Wildwood in old town Sherwood, it includes a gazebo, a playground structure, and a picnic area with a grill. Fairway Park also has an outdoor swimming pool that is open seasonally with changing area, restroom facilities, and concession stand, and an 11,000 square foot dogpark.

Indianhead Park - 33 Deerfield Drive
Located on the corner of Deerfield and Custer, it includes a pavilion and picnic area, a playground structure, swing , and tennis court. Indianhead Park also has an outdoor swimming pool that is open seasonally with restroom facilities.

Lake Cherrywood Park
Located on Summit Street off of Kiehl Avenue, it includes a lake stocked by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, a fishing pier, basketball court, a gazebo, , a playground structure, swing set, and a picnic area with a grill. Lake Cherrywood Park is also home to the annual fishing derby for physically challenged elementary school aged kids attending Sherwood schools.

Pickthorne Park
Located on Marlar Street, it includes a pavilion, walking trail, a basketball court, playground structure, swing set, and a picnic area.

Stonehill Park - Gemstone Drive
This pocket park boasts a short walking trail with a bridge over a stone lined dry creekbed.
 

Storer Park
Located at the end of Helen and Johnny Lane, off West Lee, it includes a quarter-mile asphalt paved walking trail.

Thornhill Park - 2201 Thornhill Drive
Located behind the Municipal Complex off of Kiehl Avenue, it includes a gazebo, picnic area with a grill, a half-mile asphalt walking trail, and a vintage Union Pacific Caboose. Thornhill Park also has an outdoor swimming pool that is open seasonally with a changing area, restroom facilities, and a concession stand.

Verona Park
Located on Verona Avenue off Wildwood Avenue, nearby Sherwood Elementary School, it includes a gazebo, picnic area with a grill, a playground structure, swing set, and a basketball court.

Youth Center

Some of the amenities and activities featured here are two outdoor tennis courts, a basketball court, playground structure, two billiard tables, foosball, painting classes, and Table Tennis Club.

Sherwood Library

A community library that has been in existence since the 1980’s. Feel free to stop in to borrow a few books today.

Recreation and Leisure

Sherwood, Arkansas is a great place to visit! There are several recreational opportunities year-round; from the spring and summer sports leagues for all ages, fishing and swimming, pancake breakfasts, fish fries, potluck luncheons, the Bill Harmon Recreation Center, Sherwood Fest, the Halloween festival, and Christmas Parade , and Festival of Lights, Enchanted Forest Trail of Lights .

Sherwood is home to several regional and national baseball and softball league tournaments through the spring and summer each year. The Sports Complex is home to Sylvan Hills High School baseball games, and soccer leagues for kids so there's always an opportunity for a family night out at the ballpark.

Our seventeen community parks and recreational facilities are a great resource for the citizens, offering our residents and visitors walking and running tracks, playgrounds, pools, tennis courts, and fishing .The Bill Harmon Recreation Center is available for members and guests. Featuring a gymnasium, walking track, olympic-sized pool, and exercise equipment and fitness classes. It's a great place to join friends for a brisk workout.

Sherwood Forest is home to many of the City's community-wide events such as our annual Fourth of July celebration with food and drinks and the best fireworks display in Central Arkansas; Easter Egg Hunt, Sherwood Fest, ; Halloween Carnival for the kids.

City Parks and Pools

Sherwood is home to seventeen neighborhood parks and four pools that provide a broad range of recreational activities for our residents. Each of our parks offers a unique recreational opportunity from fishing, swimming, biking, golf, walking trails, baseball, basketball, tennis, soccer, play grounds for the children, and outdoor picnicking facilities. We hope that you will take advantage of the many public parks and pools available for Sherwood's residents.

Bill Harmon Recreation Center

The Bill Harmon Recreation Center opened in May of 2002 and has seen rapid growth in its membership. The Center offers a variety of exercise opportunities; including a gymnasium, walking/running track, cardio equipment and free weights, and an olympic-sized lap pool. The Center has showers and locker room facilities for convenience.

Tennis

Junior Tennis Program (Ages 5 - 17)
The Junior Tennis Program runs year-round with both private and group lessons. There is a challenge ladder for participants to compete against one another, and there are junior and adult tournaments throughout the year in the Central Arkansas region.

Adult Tennis League (Ages 18 and Older)
The Parks & Recreation Department offers a Youth Tennis League for children age 5 through 17, and an Adult Tennis League for individual's age 18 and older. The Adult Tennis League is certified by the United States Tennis Association, and plays:

After-School Care

The City of Sherwood offers after-school care from 3:00pm-6:00pm, Monday through Friday, for students attending Sherwood Public Schools (Sherwood, Oakbrooke, Sylvan Hills, and Clinton Elementary). The After-School Program will be open from 7:00am to 6:00pm on days the children are out of school throughout the school year as long as it is not a City observed holiday or due to inclement weather. The children eligible to attend will be 5-12 years old, and currently in Kindergarten through 5th Grade. A City of Sherwood van will pick up the children and bring them to the Bill Harmon Recreation Center. This Program is a recreationally based program. The program Counselors will assist with homework, conduct indoor and outdoor recreational activities as well as arts and crafts activities. For more information please call 835-6893.


Summer Camp

The City of Sherwood offers a recreationally based Summer Camp. The Summer Camp will be located at Sherwood Forest at 1111 West Maryland. The dates for the camp are based on the Pulaski County Special School District’s Schedule. The children are divided based upon the grade they are going into (1st-8th). The children must have completed Kindergarten in order to be involved in this Summer Camp. Each week will offer a variety of indoor, outdoor, and arts and crafts activities, and will include a field trip as well as a trip to the Thornhill Pool. The hours of operation for the Summer Camp will be 7:00am-6:00pm, Monday through Friday. For more information please call 835-6893 August 15 –June 1 and 835-8909 from June 2-August 14.

WELCOME TO SHERWOOD FOREST
Sherwood Forest is located in the middle of the Sherwood and is an easy drive from any location in Central Arkansas.

Sherwood Forest provides two indoor rental event spaces - the Forest Room (900 capacity) and the Sherwood Room (250 capacity).

The outside space features a covered pavilion with grill, playgrounds, horseshoes, basketball and volleyball court. Everything you need for your next outing.

Whether you need indoor or outdoor event space, you will find Sherwood Forest is the perfect place.
